Just thought I would show you all the lengths we are now going to to keep things safe around here. And slightly neat on occasion. Sure, we have our outlet covers and cabinet locks, but why stop there?
If there is something that can be opened, climbed up, pulled down, poked, smacked, stomped, yanked, or licked.. you can bet it’s going to happen. So we decided to take things a step further..
They just loooove to get into these closets and pull everything out. Luckily, they haven’t yet figured out to just grab the slats and pull the closet doors open that way. But I think I’ve bought myself a little time anyway by taking off the pulls. And those doorknob covers- they may be safe for kids, but they are downright dangerous for me. Don’t rush into a room thinking you can open the door as quickly as you used to without it on. It takes an extra second to get a grip on the knob. Just long enough to crash your forehead into the door, if you’re unlucky.
We have a gate on one side of the kitchen, but I can see it won’t be long until Ben is getting over them so I don’t want to go out and buy another one for this spot. The packnplay alone is too light- the kids can push it right out of the way, but putting the chairs in it makes it very heavy- for all of us- to move. It also prohibits the kids from climbing up onto the dining room table, which is kind of a bonus. I’m really hoping I never have cause to run into the kids room in the middle of the night, and forget this is here, as it’s the quickest route between our rooms. That could be painful.
This entertainment center is just outside the babies’ play yard. I have 8 versions of Elmo in there, a ball pit, a tent, a tunnel, and about 79 other toys, but all they want to do is climb out and play with the dvds. I hope I don’t want to watch any anytime soon, though.
Another week, almost gone in a blur. I have no idea what I’ve even been doing. Today was a productive day, though it started out a little.. annoyingly. It was supposed to be our 18-month well visit, but as we were loading the kids into the car, the office called and said the doctor was going to be in that day, and we could see the nurse practitioner if we wanted to wait another hour.. Ugh. I really wanted to talk to their doctor, so I passed on that and rescheduled. I really wanted to get it over with though, and to get all ready to go and in the car, and then have it cancelled was a big bummer.
On the positive side, I got A LOT done today. I sifted through some more baby clothes, moved out the ones that don’t fit anymore, and made room for clothes in their closet, which allowed me to remove the changing table from their room. It was so crowded in there, and now there’s a lot more space. I also cleaned the floors, and scrubbed the mats in their play yard, and mopped under them today. We got a lot of phone calls taken care of and little things that were hanging over our heads, AND I got some grocery shopping done. To top it off, I made dinner for all of us (which pretty much only happens once a week, and ALL the babies (including Todd) loved it. Meatloaf, roasted potatoes and cauliflower. It’s so gratifying to see your family actually enjoy what you make.
Bathtime is a highlight of our day now. Doing it everyday is great, because not only do they enjoy it, but I am a lot more free with what I let them eat now. Messy foods, like pasta with sauce were formerly only allowed on bath day. It is just so much easier now, doing them all at once, and having them all be happy in the tub instead of waiting for their turn. I’ve also been giving them bowls with applesauce or yogurt with their own spoon– Ben is awesome at it, since he doesn’t like being messy. Lily and Cameron are pretty good as well, but Cameron really enjoys sticking his hands in squishy things, so it’s a lot of temptation for him. But, they love it so that’s all that matters!
Cameron also has a new skill- somersaults! All the kiddos love to do them, but he’s working on doing them all by himself. He is SO proud of himself. God, I love these little guys.

**I realized after I posted this, it kind of looks like Todd has no clothes on. I promise, he has shorts on. This is a family blog:)***
