Well, it was an interesting day today, if nothing else. Lily has had a fever, since yesterday, but wasn’t really acting too uncomfortable, so I just kept an eye on her. When she woke up today from her morning nap, the fever was gone and she ate a great lunch, so I thought we’d go to Lowe’s and I could pick up some seeds for our soon-to-be garden. (Yes, I have decided to take on another project and grow our own food! Organic, and free!) Anyway, I also wanted to get us a sprinkler for the backyard for the kids to run around in, so off we went to Lowe’s. This was the first time we have gone anywhere since last Thursday, so I was ready to get out of the house, and so were the kids.
I thought I noticed a spot or two on Lily as we went into the store- but it was just a couple, so I wasn’t sure if they were bug bites? We went in, picked up what we needed, and headed out.. BOY, was it getting hot. Anyway, as I put her back into the the car, I saw a lot more little red spots all over Lily. They were faint, but definitely spreading. She still was acting fine, though, so when we got home I set up the sprinkler and the kiddie pool in the backyard and thought I’d let the kids run around.. they however, did not seem too jazzed about that idea.
I have no idea what happened, but they HATED the sprinkler and wanted nothing to do with the pool. Cameron toddled over towards the other side of the yard and Ben watched as I tried to get the sprinkler hooked up to the hose while Lily clung to me like a spider monkey. I got the old kind of sprinkler, that shoots out from a bar, and goes back and forth- nothing crazy. When it started going off, Ben freaked out, Lily, still clinging to me, started screaming, and Cameron, who was about 10 yards away started getting sprayed, and he was not happy.
He just wandered in circles, trying to escape the spray but unable to figure out which direction would get him out. It was so sad, but I had the other two screaming their heads off, hanging on to me for dear life and I couldn’t go get him until I had them safely deposited somewhere… All the while I’m sweating and dripping from getting sprayed myself, it’s feeling about 110 degrees out at this point. and now Lily’s spots are looking a little worse. I ran inside with Lily and Ben, dropped them off in the playard and ran back out to grab Cam. Poor little guy.
You know what though, the instant I pick him up, he’s always fine. Lays his little head right on my shoulder and stops crying immediately. Once we got inside, it was clear that everyone was traumatized and wet and crabby, so I changed them and put them right down for a nap, so I could start googling baby rashes. From what I gathered, it was probably either Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, or Roseola, but most likely Roseola, because when I got them up from their nap- the spots were gone. HFM seems to last a little longer. Neither ailment can really be treated, the viruses just have to run their course and since there is no temp, I am not running to the doctor this time.
Especially since, the doctor’s office is most likely where we picked up this thing to begin with!
Anyway, fast forward to dinner, and my sweet little princess was not fevering, no spots, but certainly not herself either. Super temperamental, refusing to sit in the high chair, or eat. I finally gave in and let her walk around the kitchen while I fed the boys, and she just got busy moving the chairs around, dumping Kix out from the snack cup and into an empty water bottle, and giving me the evil eye. I wonder if she’s imitating my serious face that I give them when I want them to stop what they are doing- but boy is it a defiant little face. It was very strange to see.
On another topic, she is talking up a storm now! I think she said at least 3 new words today: cookie, choo-choo, book, and oh yes, she has officially learned it… “NO!” Yikes. It is pretty cute, though.
Anyway, by the time bedtime rolled around, she was back to normal. Let’s hope this is the end of the sickness!
*And a little update about the mama bird in the backyard: Her eggs have hatched! I was only able to see one baby in her nest, though there may have been more.. I didn’t want to get too close and be annoying:)
Well, that is that. Hopefully I can get to work on my garden tomorrow!
