In honor of today’s Multiples and More Blog Carnival, here is my answer to the Question of the Week: What makes your husband (or dad) a great dad?
(Play along with Multiples and More and answer this question on your OWN blog!)
So, to be completely honest, it’s been a tough year and a half. While we are incredibly lucky to have these beautiful, healthy kids, Todd and I were most definitely not prepared for the challenges we have faced. Money and time are in short supply around here, and that makes for some frequently cranky spouses. But when I sit down and actually think about it.. we are damned lucky. Our children are healthy. We are both healthy. We have lots of family that loves us. Todd is able to work, and I am able to spend every day with my kids. The greatest gift that we have, is time we get to spend with our kids. Todd gives up his time with them to go to work, so that I can have it.
That is huge.
And when he’s home, he’s right there with the kids, doing anything and everything to make them smile and laugh.
Making up words to songs as he goes along, dancing to the Mickey Mouse Playhouse theme song.
Beaming with pride when they learn new things.
Kissing them and telling them how much he loves them, every 45 seconds or so.
I wince sometimes when he asks me for 27th time what to feed them, or where their socks are. Instead of getting annoyed that he’s asking me the same question over and over again, I should be glad that he respects my opinion on what to feed our children. Maybe he doesn’t know where the socks are because he is almost always already at work by the time the kids are getting dressed in the morning.
I’m sorry I don’t always say it, Todd.. I do think you are a great dad. Our kids are lucky to have a dad that loves them as much as you.
Happy Father’s Day.
I love you.
