The kids are growing and changing so fast, that I thought it was about time that I dedicate a post to each of them, so I can remember just how they are at this funny, crazy, (somewhat frustrating) age.
Maybe I should technically do them in birth order, but I like to mix things up so let’s go with Ben first:
How would I describe Benjamin today?
finicky, stubborn, stealthy,
But more specifically, his smile can and will literally make your day. Those dimples! If I could bottle and sell his smile, I wouldn’t have to wonder how we’re going to pay for their college educations. And then, there’s the laugh- he’ll do something silly, like stick his fork in his ear, and make you laugh. Then he’ll laugh. Then you’ll laugh because he’s laughing, and it’s so darn cute. And so on and so forth, until you are both laughing for no particular reason other than his cuteness.
This inherent silliness is so funny, because I was absolutely SURE that Ben was going to be kind of a grump.. I remember holding him in the hospital, and he looked at Todd and I as if to say “I am not impressed.” I’m serious, it was like he was disappointed. His first few months, he was very sensitive, and had lots of tummy issues, crying every night for at least an hour or two, and we were sure he was going to be the “handful”. Which he is, but not in the way we thought. Now he is by far, the happiest child.
He loves to snuggle- he’ll set up camp in any lap that will take him.
He is one determined child. When he wants something, he will stop at nothing. NOTHING, until he has it.
Let’s just say he has some quirks. I have mentioned his shoe obsession before- it’s weird. He is crazy about shoes. When he wants shoes on, he will let you know, and fuss until you put them on his feet. If you leave your shoes on the floor, he’ll put them on and try to walk around.
He has taken a liking to Lily’s shoes, especially. Nice.
If you have no shoes on, he may very well bring you your shoes, and fuss until you put them on. When you do, he laughs, like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever seen. Which sometimes it is. The other day he had Todd walking around in shorts and dress shoes, with no socks. Sexy.
He is quite picky about his clothes these days. He may decide that he doesn’t like the shirt he has on, and need it changed immediately. Or he will rip it off himself.
He looooves running around naked. But don’t all babies?
He’s also quite particular about which cups, plates, and forks he gets. When I walk over with 3 plates identical food, but on different colored plates, he will fuss unless he gets the color he wants. Luckily, the other two are not very picky about colors (yet).
He may decide midmeal that he wants to trade plates with someone else. At which point he’ll shove his plate on their tray, and reach for theirs saying “shi” (share). We need to clarify the meaning of that word, I think.
I was a little nervous about the fact that he wasn’t saying very many words, but in the past couple days, I have heard some new ones.
and a couple others I can’t think of now..
Overall, this is one happy, gorgeous, headstrong, fun-loving kid.. he is a blessing and a joy, and I could not love him more.
