I have officially registered, and signed up for the Team in Training program with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. For those who aren’t familiar with Team In Training, it is a program that is dedicated to helping its participants complete a marathon, half marathon, or other event, while raising money to benefit research for blood cancers; myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. There is a minimum of 2,400 hundred dollars that I must raise (I thought it was 2,200, but I must have been mistaken) in order to participate.
Team in Training gives you the tools to succeed; a fundraising page where anyone can easily donate online, a coach to help you train, and many other fundraising tools to help you reach your goals. People from all walks of life and range of abilities participate in this program, and successfully complete a marathon. For me, this undertaking is exactly what I need to do, for so many reasons. I have wanted to run a marathon for as long as I can remember, and I want to do something that myself and my family can be proud of. I want to make a difference in the lives of others, and let people that are affected by cancer know that I care. My childhood friend, Christa, from NY, and I have lived far from each other for so long, and with this marathon training, it will give us a chance to reconnect that we have never had.
I know there are some people that think I’m slightly crazy for trying this, and that’s ok. You’ll see:)
Here’s a little informational video about the program:
I just made a bold statement on Facebook. I said that if I reach my fundraising goal by October 15th, that I would give myself the Kate Gosselin haircut. Hmm. Maybe I should just go with a short bob, I’m not so sure that haircut is really a reward for anyone:)
So friends, family, blog buddies, please hop on over to my Fundraising page, and do what you can. Any little amount helps- it really does. You can still donate using my ChipIn widget, but I will consolidate the two accounts shortly.
I will be starting my fundraising efforts on my blog soon, so stop back! I might just be giving away all my coach purses! If you have an item that you would like to donate for a fundraising auction on my blog, that will work too! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if that is something you are interested in!
Have a great day!
