We have joined the ranks of the duct-tape diaperers. I thought it was pretty weird the first time I read about someone doing that.. until I found out what it was like to have 3 kids that love to disrobe and run around naked. Taking their diapers off is an awesome, fun activity for the kids- not so much for me for obvious reasons. Let’s just say I’ve been doing a lot of steam cleaning and crib sheet changing lately. The only way to get them to keep those suckers on is to duct tape them. Sounds crazy, I know, but it works. They wake up from naps naked, but at least they have their diaper on and “Number Two” is not smeared all over their crib sheet, and crib tent (which is really tricky to clean, I might add).
I wish I had a video of it, but yesterday I had Ben in his high chair, and the kid took off all his clothes while sitting in the chair. He looked at me triumphantly, sitting with his diaper on, and proceeded to whip off the diaper like a magician pulling off a tablecloth with the table full of dishes. He wasn’t duct-taped at the time.
Our velcro on our cloth diapers does NOT stand up to a determined toddler, and I really want to be able to sell them on diaperswappers.com when we are done with them, so I am not sure I want to put duct tape on them. Hence, we have been going with regular disposable diapers for the last few days, which makes me feel terribly guilty, although it probably shouldn’t. I can’t lie, a part of me is loving not doing diaper laundry every day.
So, now I’m wondering if a return to onesies is in order- they may not be able to get those off although I’m sure it would only be a matter of time. Or other types of non-removable clothing, like overalls, straitjackets, whatever works. Just kidding about the straitjacket.
It’s just about every day now that they figure something else out and I have to come up with a new “system” to keep them from running amok. Lily can now climb into pack n plays without even needing to get a stepstool (or diaperbox, or book to stand on), so our makeshift “gate” which we have blocking one entrance to the kitchen is no longer functional. She climbs right up there and sits on the upside down dining room chairs which are in the packnplay to keep them from moving it. yesterday she walked up and handed me my insurance card… I had my purse on the seat of the chair in the pnp, so she got up and helped herself to everything in it,, then got down by herself too. Nice!
Here’s a little video of our morning antics…
Have a great day:)
