I’m referring the “carseat” turnaround. Due to some extremely generous grandparents, the kids are getting awesome new carseats for their birthday (in a little over a month!) to replace their “Cosco Sceneras”. This picture makes them look so much nicer and fluffier than they really are! And those cupholders are junk!
In an effort to save money, when the time came to switch the kids to convertible seats, I went to our local fire station where I was told I could get a great deal on carseats, as well as have them installed by the firepeople(?). That was quite a fiasco. It seriously took three hours to get the seats installed, the firepeople had no idea what they were doing. The kids did get a good tour of the firestation, but they were only 9 months old at the time so they didn’t really get into it much.
And the carseats.. they were pretty much the cheapest carseats on the market, I believe I saw them later for $45 in WalMart, I paid 30 bucks each from the fire station. I think I got hosed, haha. I was just expecting a little better deal, I guess.
I know that all carseats have to pass the same inspections, but these Cosco carseats are really difficult to deal with and look totally uncomfortable. There’s barely any cushion, and the straps will mysteriously get super-tight on one side, and loose on the other, so they will get their arms out from time to time while riding in the car. I’ll be driving and see an arm waving out of the corner of my eye and think.. “Wait, why can I see you right now?”. NOT GOOD!
I’ve also been toying with the idea of turning them around in their seats so that they are forward facing. I am kind of torn about this because I know they are technically safer facing backwards, but at the same time I know they will be so much happier and more comfortable facing forward. They also won’t have the seat to kick their legs against to make it harder for me to buckle them in if they are facing forward. I just want them to have a nice, comfy sturdy seat when we turn them around. Which is why the kids are getting these awesome Britax carseats! I cannot believe how excited I am about a CARSEAT of all things. But I am. We are actually getting a Britax Marathon, a Decathlon, and we already have one that was given to us but haven’t used yet.
AlbeeBaby is having a really good sale on Britax carseats right now, so at least we are getting a good deal. Free shipping as well, on orders over $100. The straps supposedly don’t twist as easily, and are easy to adjust as the kids grow. It accommodates kids up to 65 pounds, so this will hopefully be the last carseat we need until they are ready for boosters!
So that’s my big exciting news for the day:) My day at work yesterday was fabulous. It was really funny being back in that setting, bartending again. I haven’t poured a drink in over 3 years! At one point, someone asked me for a Private Stock and I said “sure”.. and it took me about 30 seconds to remember what Private Stock was (Captain Morgan- duh). See, my brain is filled with Elmo, Handy Manny, and the Wiggles now. Can the knowledge of shot recipes and the words to “There’s a Party In My Tunny” coexist in one brain? Should they? I will let you know. But so far the answer is yes, because I had a great day talking to people, and making a little cash. And if you think I am not going to milk the triplet card to get more tips, you would be wrong.
I only have about $650 more to raise to meet my fundraising minimum!! I have a big new fundraiser in the works- Blog For a Cure II: The Competition. Stay tuned for details!
