Life is crazy. I’m going back to work fulltime soon, we have an au pair coming to live with us (tomorrow!), the holidays are rapidly approaching, and in the midst of it all, I decided to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society while training for a marathon. Idiot. I have since switched my marathon plans to the half marathon, since my training efforts have been a little less than stellar, but I still have had this fundraising looming over my shoulder for the past 4 months. Last week I woke up and realized that I had just a week left to raise the remainder of my goal (94 dollars). I wondered how on earth I was going to come up with this last bit- and then I woke up yesterday morning and saw that I had a donation that, just in the nick of time, got me to my goal of 2,400.00. (The one drawback to participating in Team In Training is that, once you commit, you have to raise the money, or else you are obligated to pay it yourself. Pretty good incentive for fundraising.. but also can be kind of stressful).
I was in complete shock when I saw that last donation. Someone who does not know me, and does not know the people in honor of whom I committed to this event, gave selflessly to help me not only accomplish my goal, but to help make a difference in the lives of those suffering due to blood cancer. It is truly amazing to know that this type of person still exists in the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you, sir, for your kindness. And thank you to the countless bloggers, friends, and family members who gave to this fundraiser. Your help has been truly appreciated, and will not be forgotten. You have done something that you should be proud of.
Now.. the half-marathon. I will complete it.. I probably won’t run the whole thing, but I will cross the finish. I’ll keep you posted on that one- it’s January 9th.
Our au pair comes tomorrow night! We are very excited- will update again soon!
