It’s been a few days since I’ve updated, but then again, I have also worked about 55 hours in the past 5 days as well! Now, I get almost a whole week off with my kiddos, so I am pretty happy about that. We kicked off our week’o’fun with a playdate with our friends, Jill and Aaron. The kids had a blast playing with all the new toys (AKA Cozy Coupes, which they had never seen before), but they decidedly need some work on their social skills. We just need to get our kids together more often! There were quite a few cute moments today, like when Jill and Cameron shared a cup of tea. (I am using the word “shared: loosely, of course).
I think she was a little annoyed with all these kids hogging her lunch table, so she defected to the floor:)
Lily was so gracious as to allow Jill to hold onto ONE of (her own) princesses.. isn’t she sweet?
Cameron LOVED the Cozy Coupe. Must start searching craigslist for some, pronto.
In other news, I am going to be working on a series of posts for this blog about fun, free activities for kids to do in Central Florida. In honor of the fact that we are trying to save money, and that most things to do in this area are SO expensive, I am going to take my kids each week to a new place that we can all enjoy for free, and then share the info about it on my blog. I get asked quite often about what things there are to do for FREE here, so I think it will be a worthwhile task!
As for the kids, I know I really need to do some potty-training research. I feel the time is approaching that they will soon be really ready to give it a go. Not quite yet, but soon.
And toddler beds? No way Jose, not a chance, they kids sleep pretty good right now, and I am not ready to mess with that.
If you haven’t noticed, the tagline on my blog says that it’s about “training for a marathon, and raising money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society”, but I haven’t done that for a while. I did my half marathon, and raised a bunch of money earlier in the year, and then it all kind of got put on the back burner. I still want to do another event, I just don’t know if it will be with Team In Training. Things have been a little crazy since I returned to work, but I plan to start working on those goals again soon.
Want to hear a fun story? Todd and I went to the bank yesterday, to open a new account together, as we are planning on leaving our old bank (which was WAMU, but since Chase bought it, its HORRIBLE!). We got to the bank, waited a good 20 minutes, and the associate informed me that my drivers license is expired. I was shocked- after all, it says 2010 on my license, and … oh crap, it is 2010. So we were unable to do what needed to get done without a current license, and I went today to get the new one. I found a new DMV that is a little out of the way, but had barely any wait time, so it was great. I get called up, and am informed that as of January 2010, you now need a passport or birth certificate, marriage license (if your name is different), social security card, and two letters with your name and current address on them. Really?? Yes, really. So, I turn around and go home, collect the documents, stop for gas, go all the way back, and then pay the 63$ (of course, they tack on a little extra for my lateness). The real gift is that I got a truly heinous picture taken for my new license. Happy Birthday to me!
The summer storms we are getting are quite a pain in the butt.. the kids HATE thunder, and scream their heads off. It’s terrible when it happens during naptime- just like any other time, if I run in every time they cry, they will never stop crying. I hate to let them cry it out when they are scared, but naptime is naptime. We’ve gone in and held them, we’ve explained that thunder can’t hurt them, it’s just noise… at some point they have to get over it, right? Does that sound mean and callous?
There ya have it, all the news that’s fit to print from the Lyons household.
(I’m number 172 now! Thanks!!)
