We had a lovely, yet trying time this morning at the Nickelodeon Hotel, where the kids got to meet the one, the only… Dora the Explorer! The hotel has a “character breakfast” which features Dora, and a few other Nick Jr. characters. Originally the plan was to have all of us go (Todd, me, Ploy, Lily, Ben and Cameron) so that we’d have one adult per child, and then we’d go swimming in the super-amazing waterpark-like swimming pool at the hotel, but Todd ended up taking a work trip to the Camry factory in Lexington so it ended up being just Ploy and I. And let’s just say, the kids were not on their best behavior! I am convinced that they know when they have the adults outnumbered and turn up the naughtiness a few notches just to see us sweat. They didn’t want to sit in their seats, didn’t want to walk holding our hands, and were profusely pissed off because we weren’t actually going swimming. We tried to take them to a playground after eating but it was within view of the pool, where they couldn’t go, so there was no consoling them. Alas, I did get a couple cute pictures.
Blurry, but cute.
Ironically, Lily is the biggest fan of Dora but she froze up when Dora came to the table to say hi, and refused to take a picture with her.
Cameron was the friendliest, from the start.
But Benny got pretty friendly with her too… although I did have to remind him that we don’t poke our friends in the eyeballs.
Any idea why Dora is baring her midriff here? Really, what’s up with that?
They had little computers that kids can play with- they didn’t have a clue what they were doing, but they definitely enjoyed being allowed to touch the computer!
There is a lot for kids to see and do at the Nick Hotel, but we didn’t stay long because the kids were just too whiny. We returned home sweaty and sleepy and ready for nap even though it was only 12:30. On a good note, the kids all used the potty at the hotel, and had no accidents. Everyone is still doing really well with the exception of one little brunette that refuses to earn herself a lollipop..
Highlight of the morning: Benny announces that he had to go to the potty, then hops off his chair and immediately drops his pants and underwear in the middle of the restaurant. Our table was conveniently located in the front of the restaurant, right where all the characters were dancing. Fantastic!
On the fundraising front, things are going well so far. Beer Pong for a Cause is scheduled for next week, and my Blog For A Cure Blog Party will be September 13-17th, so stay tuned!
